Valentine's Day gift idea

Do you want a great gift idea for Valentine's Day? Adopt an animal at a shelter! Even if you can't care for one, make a donation in someone's name and tell them about it in a card. You could even get a photo of one of the shelter animals and wrap it as a gift, letting your valentine know they are helping support that animal.

If you need adoption or donation ideas, visit Pasado's Safe Haven, a rescue shelter in Washington state. You can adopt an animal online--from dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies to farm animals--you'll find a favorite quickly, I guarantee it.

It's better than chocolate and doesn't go to the hips!

Washington state legislation on animal cruelty

S.B. 5352 and H.B. 1304 are in the Washington state legislature right now. The bills would make animal cruelty in the first degree a class C felony (right now it's a misdemeanor).

If you live outside of Washington state, you can e-mail and call the WA state legislators. When legislators know a law is gaining a national spotlight, it can help. If you're a resident of Washington state, you can target your letters and calls to your legislators - and they DO make a difference.

Visit Pasados Safe Haven Web site for information on the bill and what Pasado's is doing to get the bills passed. Their site is http://www.pasadosafehaven.org/.

Animal Diaries

Our dog, a five-year old Keeshond, has epilepsy. He used to be on Potassium Bromide (KBr) but that didn't stop the seizures. The neurologist has added Phenol Barbitol (PhB), which damages the liver, to the Kbr. He hasn't had a seizure for 9 weeks, the longest he has gone without one. Does anyone else have a dog using these medications, and if so, what kind of luck did you have? How long has your pet been on the meds?
